Naomi Osaka v Cori Gauff Head to Head
There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Osaka leads 2-1 on head to head.
All three matches came on hard court surfaces with Osaka winning at the 2019 US Open and 2021 Cincinnati Open while Gauff squeaking one past her opponent at the 2020 Australian Open.

It took her three sets to get going but Osaka would be delighted in the end result of her first round match.
Having not won a competitive match of tennis in over three months, Osaka got herself a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win over Qinwen Zheng to proceed into the second round. In a match lasting two hours and five minutes, Osaka blasted 11 aces and what would hold her in a good stead, won 81% of her first serve points to clinch the match.
Osaka did face eight break-points but she managed to save seven of them. It is a statistic that the Japanese player will be mindful of because saving all of those break-points might not happen as well against a better quality player like Gauff.
Having said that, Osaka broke Zheng thrice in the process of the six opportunities she got.

Gauff Annihilates Anhelina
It wasn’t like Gauff wasn’t a favourite going into her opening round encounter against Anhelina Kalinina, but not too many would have expected the annihilation that followed.
Gauff dropped just one game in her opening round with Kalinina, in what was her first match since her third round exit at Wimbledon.
The American, who had earlier reached the final at the French Open this year, was on court for a mere 55 minutes to move past Kalinina. Gauff slammed seven aces and won a whopping 89% of her first serve points as she managed to save the only break-point she faced all match.
In turn, Gauff broke Kalinina five times to complete the rout.
Coming into a match against an opponent like Osaka, that was a much-needed win.
Osaka v Gauff Prediction and Tip
While Osaka, in her prime, would have been a favourite going up against even this version of Gauff, it looks unlikely at this stage. Expecting Gauff to edge past the former world number one.
