Veronika Kudermetova v Claire Liu Head to Head
There have been one previous meeting between these two players and it came at the 2022 Australian Open. Kudermetova had won that first round match in straight sets.

It took Kudemetova three sets and a lot of time on court to register a first round win over Camila Giorgi.
She scraped past Giorgi 7-6 (2), 4-6, 7-5 to seal her second round berth in what was her first competitive match since mid-June after having missed Wimbledon.
In a match lasting nearly three hours, both players dropped their serves five times apiece, while winning 62 and 61 points respectively on their serves.
It was Kudermetova’s ability to hold her nerve at crucial times, including the first set tie-breaker and as she broke Giorgi in the 12th game of the final set, that allowed her to inch ahead.
Kudermetova, who is taking part in this competition for the first time, will hope to go one better now and try and get past her career-best ranking of 18th in the world.

Liu Continues to Surprise
Just early last year, Liu was ranked 223rd in the world and playing on the ITF circuit. Some solid performances at that level and a collection of match victories at Wimbledon, Bastad and Chicago – where she made the semifinal – helped Liu break into the top 100.
This year, Liu seems to have gone one better, having won a WTA125 title in Paris and reaching the final of the Rabat Open following that. Both these performances came on clay.
Grass hasn’t been her most preferred surface but Liu now returns to hard court competitions and began that with a 6-2, 7-5 surprise win over Beatriz Haddad Maia. She had gone into that encounter as 8/5 underdog to win.

Kudermetova was in a bit of a strife in her opener but did well to come through. It could have been a case of rustiness but she would have regained some of her control and should make it through here albeit in a fighting match.
