Kokkinakis Enjoying Injury-Free Season
Thanasi Kokkinakis has had one of the toughest careers when it comes to injuries. Despite being a prodigious talent as a teenager, the Aussie hasn’t quite lived up to the high expectations that the tennis world had for him.
Along with a breakout year in doubles, where he won his first major in Melbourne with partner Nick Kyrgios, Kokkinakis is having the best season of the career, currently ranked 75 in the world and 64 in the race to Turin. However, most of his big results came in Australia, where he reached the semi-finals in Adelaide and was a champion the following week in the second tournament held there.
Kokkinakis hasn’t quite rediscovered the early season form, but will be encouraged by a valiant display in the opening round last week in Cincinnati, where he came within two points of victory over world number 12 Jannik Sinner.
Considering the weapons of the Aussie’s game, featuring a big serve and confident net play, Kokkinakis has a great shot at a deep run this week in Winston Salem, where many of the top players have opted out ahead of next week’s US Open.

Tale of Two Halves in 2022 for Duckworth
James Duckworth is also no stranger to periods of time out of action. Like Andy Murray, the world number 82 has gone through a recent hip surgery, which kept him out between February and May earlier this year.
The Aussie lost 8 matches in a row to start off his season, before managing to qualify for the ATP 250 tournament in Eastbourne. His last couple of months have been promising, after making the semi-finals of a challenger event in Porto, and making the quarter-finals of the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, Rhode Island.
Duckworth is in need of some big performances over the next few weeks. He will soon be defending a huge collection of ranking points, after reaching the quarter finals of the ATP 1000 event in Paris last year, and winning a challenger event in Istanbul.
Despite not meeting before at tour level, Duckworth will be encouraged by his two challenger level wins over Kokkinakis in 2013 and 2014, and with a few recent wins under his belt, the lower ranked Aussie will be full of confidence going into this match.
Kokkinakis v Duckworth Prediction and Tip
Despite a slight upturn in results for Duckworth of late, Kokkinakis has delivered many impressive showings over the last few months, and with that in mind, the Grand Slam doubles champion is the favourite to prevail here.
