Lehecka Begins US Hard Court Season
Jiri Lehecka recently captured the Liberec Challenger – his third title at that level – on home soil. The young Czech was a strong favorite from the getgo and duly lived up to the billing as the top-seeded player just a couple of weeks back.
Lehecka will need to adjust very quickly to hard courts as he kicks off his North American hard court season at Winston Salem. The 20-year-old will play on the surface for the first time since his tremendous run to the semifinals of Rotterdam in February – his very first last-four appearance at tour level.
After starting 2022 ranked at No. 141 in the world rankings, he has vaulted to within the top 60 in less than eight months. And for the first time in his young career, he is set to partake in the main draw of all four Grand Slams, with the US Open just a week away.
How will he fare against an ATP veteran on Monday?

Gojowczyk Gets Lucky Break
Peter Gojowczyk has spent most of this year qualifying for ATP Tour events, only managing to play 15 main draw matches and suffering a whopping 12 defeats. But it is quite astonishing that his two wins this season came against the likes of Brandon Nakashima and Ugo Humbert, whilst benefitting from Alexander Zverev’s default in Acapulco.
The 33-year-old German has been ranked as high No. 39 in the world but is well past it. His latest defeat came at the hands of Benoit Paire in Washington – a hammer blow in his bid to return to the world’s top 100.
Gojowczyk will certainly need a big week at Winston Salem to give himself a chance to appear in the qualifying rounds of this year’s US Open.
Following a spate of withdrawals this week, the World No. 114 has secured a straight main draw berth – replacing Marcos Giron.
Lehecka v Gojowczyk Prediction and Tip
Gojowczyk remains competitive on hard courts despite his poor form in 2022. But it is hard to see the German veteran getting anything from this match.
Tip: Lehecka to win: 7/20 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
