Joao Sousa v Laslo Djere Head to Head

World no. 59 Joao Sousa is making his eighth main-draw appearance in the tournament, and is still searching for his first win.
While he will be desperate to get his maiden win in eighth attempt, his return form isn’t too encouraging and that may add more pressure on him. Sousa is 2-8 in the last 10 main draw matches, which dates back to the Geneva Open final, which he lost to Casper Ruud.
Most recently he lost in the first qualifying round of the Canadian Open.
The 33-year-old had a very bright start to the season though, as he went on to lift his fourth ATP title, and a first since 2018, in Pune, India. Thanks to that performance and his run to a 12th ATP final in Geneva, he has a 13-14 record this season. It will be interesting to see if he can break his Winston-Salem jinx by winning the second round contest on Tuesday.

Djere Holds Off Goffin
Laslo Djere stunned David Goffin in the first round with a three-set win on Monday.
Djere came back from a break down to take the first set. Goffin got the solitary break in the second set to draw level. While the Serb once again came back from a break down in the third to seal the two-hour-and-six-minute contest 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Djere served 10 aces and 26 winners in what was his first main draw victory in Winston-Salem. He had lost in the opening round in his only previous appearance in 2018.
Ranked No. 89, the clay court specialist didn’t have a lot of impact on his preferred surface going 10-10 with just one semifinal finish in Marrakech.
He is yet to prove himself on hard courts and has struggled on the surface this year as well, with Monday’s win being his fourth from nine hard court matches.
Sousa v Djere Prediction and Tip
With a win over a quality player in the first round, Djere will be high on confidence. But Sousa has been a better hard court player over the years and he should edge past the Serb on Tuesday.
