Daniil Medvedev v Nick Kyrgios Head to Head

Four previous meetings between these two players have led to a 3-1 scoreline in favour of Kyrgios. The only time Medvedev did win was at the Australian Open earlier this year where he won their second round encounter in four sets.

Kyrgios defeated the world number one on the clay court of Rome in 2019, then edged past him to win the Washington Open that very year before sending Medvedev out of the Montreal Masters earlier this season.

Medvedev Routs Wu

Not that too many expected Yibing Wu to prove to be too much of a match for Medvedev when they took to court for their third round match but it wasn’t the easiest of starts for the world number one.

In the end, Medvedev coasted to a 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 win over Wu to make it three successive straight-set wins, the match lasting less than two hours.

The Russian was broken back early in the first set and faced five other break-points in the set, but once he had gone ahead once again, there was no looking back. He closed out the set in 46 minutes and then progressively got too strong for Wu.

Two more breaks of serves followed in the second and third set, while Medvedev faced just two break-points in the former and none in the latter.

Now comes Medvedev’s first real challenge after having dispatched off three relatively tepid opponents as tennis quality goes. And while he is 11/20 (with bet365) to win this, Medvedev will know it might not be that straightforward.

Kyrgios Makes it 20-5 with Wolf Win

It has been an unforgettable for the highly talented but explosive Kyrgios and he has the potential to add another chapter to that when he takes on Medvedev in the fourth round of the US Open.

Kyrgios, who had crushed Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first round and then needed four sets against Benjamin Bonzi in the second, carved out a straight-set win over JJ Wolf in the third to join Medvedev. The match lasted less than two hours.

The Aussie did not allow Wolf to settle down too much, and whatever little chances that the American did get were quickly extinguished by Kyrgios. In all he saved seven break-points while himself getting the better of Wolf’s serve on five occasions.

With 36 winners in the tow, Kyrgios won 71% of his points on serve and that’s where he will be a difficult opposition for Medvedev. The big question is if Kyrgios can repeat his performance from the Cincinnati Masters where he had gotten the better of Medvedev, but this time around in a best-of-five encounter?

Kyrgios is 6/4 (with bet365) to win this.

Medvedev v Kyrgios Prediction and Tip

There is a solid possibility of this being a very even contest that could go either way and might even see a fifth set. Backing a five-setter for this one.
