Iga Swiatek v Jessica Pegula Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these two players and Swiatek leads 2-1.

They first met at the 2019 Washington Open when Swiatek was just finding her feet and Pegula had won that encounter to make it to the quarterfinals.

Their more recent two meetings came earlier this year – at Miami and French Open – and Swiatek won both in straight sets.

Swiatek Survives a First Set Debacle against Niemeier

Jule Niemeier is ranked 108th in the world and had entered her fourth round match against the top-seeded Swiatek at a whopping but expected 9/2 odds to register a shock win.

When she broke Swiatek in the very first game of the match, it was probably down to early nerves for the world number one. Soon after, however, Swiatek found it difficult to break back and later was broken a second time to drop the set.

And when Niemeier scalped another break early in the second set, things looked to have gone badly awry for Swiatek.

Swiatek did manage to get back from there though, breaking back immediately for her first break of the match and then making it three more breaks of serve in the same set. In the process, Swiatek dropped her serve two more times,

The third set was a lot easier for the world number one who found her serving rhythm, dropping just five points on serve and completing a 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory over Niemeier.

Swiatek is 2/5 (with bet365) to reach the semifinal but she will be a touch worried about these sudden drops of form.

Pegula Pans Petra to Reach Last Eight

Pegula was a marginal, 9/11 favourite coming into her fourth round match against Petra Kvitova but the manner of her rout of her opponent would send a warning signal to her next opponent.

The American found herself a way to crush the two-time Wimbledon winner Kivtova 6-3, 6-2 in a mere 69 minutes to march into her fourth Grand Slam quarterfinal.

Despite facing 18 winners off the Kvitova racquet, it was Pegula’s ability to keep the ball in play that helped her through as the Czech also made 24 unforced errors. Pegula might have to do a lot more than that against Swiatek though, definitely hit more winners than the seven she managed all match.

This win comes after Pegula having not faced too much an opposition in her first three rounds with only Yue Yuvan managing to take a set off her.

Can she now test the world number one despite starting out 2/1 (with bet365) to win this?

Swiatek v Pegula Prediction and Tip

While Swiatek might not be giving the same kind of unbeatable impression she did earlier this year, she is still a handful and should be our pick to carve out a victory over Pegula. Might even be a straight-setter if Pegula doesn’t get off to a solid start.

Tip: Swiatek to win: 2/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
