Zhu Won the Title in 2021
World No. 69 Lin Zhu will begin her title defence against a local favourite on Monday.
The Chinese player had won the title in 2021 without dropping a set. However last year the tournament was part of WTA 125k series.
A solid hard court player, Zhu comes into this year’s tournament with a 34-21 season record behind her. However she is 3-8 in the main draws at the tour level.
The 28-year-old has done well at the ITF level, reaching three finals and winning all three of them.
In all she has won 15 ITF titles from 27 finals. Most recently she won the ITF Landsville title last month.

Jang Has Restricted Herself to Clay Recently
Facing Zhu is Korea’s Su Jeong Jang, who too has displayed very good form in the lower level tournaments.
Jang won her first-ever WTA 125 title in Bastad and captured another title on clay at ITF Canberra.
She is coming off back-to-back clay court ITF events in Collonge-Bellerive, Switzerland and Bari, Italy. While she had made it to the final four in the former, she could win just one match before being eliminated in the second round.
The 27-year-old World no. 132 will be playing in the main draw of the Korean Open for the third time. Her best was a second round finish last year.
Jhang, who is 17-5 on clay this year, was 40-14 on the surface last year. In contrast she is 5-7 on hard courts this year and was 1-1 last year, so clearly she is playing more often on clay and also enjoying more success on the surface.
Zhu v Jang Prediction and Tip
Zhu is the defending champion and also the higher-ranked player. But the Chinese player has lost three of the four matches against the Korean. So it will be a tricky start for the fourth seed, but she is the superior player on hard courts and should reach the next round without much trouble.
Tip: Zhu to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
