Fifth seed Varvara Gracheva is coming off a mixed campaign at the Chennai Open. The Russian ended a 10-match losing streak when she won her first round match in India this week.
She backed up the win with victory in the second round as well, indicating her return to form. But just when things started to look good, she fell to Linda Fruhvirtova in the quarterfinal.
It was however Gracheva’s best showing on the tour so far. Her only other significant performances this year, include a third round finish at the French Open and a run to the last eight at the WTA 125 in Paris.
The 22-year-old World No. 80 will be playing for the first time in Seoul. Over her career, the seven time ITF champion has played more and earned more wins on clay than on any other surface.
She has featured in nine ITF finals in all and all of them have been on clay. Can she deliver on hard court in Seoul?

Can Blinkova Replicate Lower Level Form on the Tour?
Knocked out in the first round of the Chennai Open, Anna Blinkova will look to make up for it at the Korean Open. The 24-year-old is 32-24 from all competitions this year.
She was a WTA 125 finalist in Saint Malo and also played in three ITF finals, but didn’t succeed in winning a title this year. While the Russian, who is ranked 149th in the world, has done well in winning matches at the ITF level, she has struggled on the tour.
Blinkova is 1-4 in the main draw on the tour and that one win came in the first round in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
When it comes to the tour level, she has struggled for a long time now as a result of which she fell out of the top 100 last year and has remained close to No. 150 for over a year now. Unable to climb back the rankings, she will be looking to put up a gallant show in Seoul, where she is making her debut.

Gracheva found some momentum in Chennai and the fifth seed will be looking to carry that to Seoul. Blinkova may take a set of her, but Gracheva should win.
