Martincova Still Searching for Form
After the highs of 2021, Tereza Martincova has suffered a loss of form in 2022, and a 19-23 season record across levels is a reflection of that.
The Czech player has won just four first round matches in the last 10 tournaments that she has featured in. Only twice has she won consecutive main draw matches this year. One of them was in Nottingham, where she was a semifinalist, while the other was in Doha, where she lost in the round of 16.
She also featured in the quarterfinals in St. Petersburg, but had a walkover in the second round of that tournament.
Martincova, who is 13-13 on hard courts this year, reached her maiden final in Prague last year during a 41-27 season. As a result of her disappointing results she has seen a dip in the rankings from No. 48 at the start of the season to the current ranking of no. 75. Can she put up a fight in Tallinn and get into some form at the back end of the season?

Bjorklund Finds Place as Lucky Loser
Mirjam Bjorklund will be featuring in the main draw as a lucky loser. The Swede, who scored na easy 6-2, 6-2 win over Greece’s Valentini Grammatikopoulou in the first qualifying round, went down fighting to Belgium’s Ysaline Bonaventure in the second qualifying round.
Bjorklund was two breaks up in the first set and one break up in the second, but she squandered the advantage on both the occasions to go down in straight sets to Bonaventure.
However, she will play Martincova in the opening round on Tuesday as a lucky loser. the 24-year-old is 31-18 this year. She has featured in two ITF finals this year, wining one and finishing runner-up in Bronx last month.
While she has had a better run on clay this year, she is 9-8 on hard courts. Her two wins in Bogota, which took her to the last eight remain her only tour-level main draw wins of the season. Can she add a third on Tuesday?
