Kovacevic Wins on Tour Debut

He made it to the main draw as a lucky loser. But 24-year-old Aleksandar Kovacevic made the most of the opportunity by stunning the seventh seed Miomir Kecmanovic in the opening round.

Playing his first-ever match on the tour, Kovacevic got the solitary break of the first set and then came back from a break down in the second to beat the World no. 32 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 33 minutes.

Kovacevic struck 14 aces in the match, won 84% first serve points and saved 9 of 10 break points that he faced. He converted 3 of 7 break points in the match and struck 39 winners, 21 more than his opponent.

The runner-up of the Indianapolis Challenger, Kovacevic had beaten Japan’s Sho Shimabukuro in the first qualifying round but had lost the second qualifier to Nicolás Jarry.

Tseng v Kovacevic Prediction and Tip

Tseng’s consistency allowed him to break into the top 100 this year but he has had more success on clay than on hard courts. He will still be the favourite in the second round clash and is expected to end the lucky loser’s run.
