Denis Shapovalov v Radu Albot Head to Head
In their only previous meeting, Albot had defeated Shapovalov in straight sets in the 2020 Sofia Open.

Shapovalov Takes His Time with Munar
After getting himself a first round bye, Shapovalov was pushed by Jaume Munar in the second before he managed to carve out a straight-set win over the Spaniard. In a match lasting an hour and 49 minutes, Shapovalov took down Munar 7-5, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinal.
Having made it as far as the third round at the US Open, Shapovalov traded breaks with Munar in the first set in the seventh and eighth game but once he had gotten the better of his opponent’s serve in the 11th game, the Canadian found his way through to grab the opening set.
Something similar happened in the second set when Shapovalov again found himself in the lead at 3-1, but lost successive games after that. Immediately though, Shapovalov broke right back and held on to his serve to clinch the encounter.
He now takes on an opponent who has beaten him in the past and on hard court too.

Albot on a Seven-Match Winning Streak
Albot won his seventh match in a row – albeit five of those came at the Istanbul Challenger – when he took down Steve Johnson in the second round here.
Having toppled Hiroki Moriya in the first round of the competition, Albot was stretched to two tie-breakers by Johnson but prevailed in both to carve out his second quarterfinal appearance of the season. He had gotten to the last eight stage at the Los Cabos Open earlier in August.
The Moldovan won 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3) in nearly two hours and after enduring 14 aces from Johnson.
Interestingly enough both players were broken three times in the encounter after facing five break-points apiece and in both sets, Johnson had a set-point before it went into the tie-breaker.
Albot’s confidence having sky-rocketed following these two performances, will look to make the most of the situation despite starting out a whopping 3/1 underdog to win this.
