There have been those occasions this season when van de Zandschulp has shown the kind of sparkle you would expect from a rising star, and one had only recently been 22nd in the world.

More recently, van de Zandschulp was knocked out in the second round of the US Open, after having reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon.
Winning all three matches at the Davis Cup might have helped van de Zandschulp’s confidence a great deal given the victories came against Alexander Bublik, Cameron Norrie and Taylor Fritz. Then again, it was followed by a second round loss in Tel Aviv to Liam Broady.
The Dutchman will hope to do a lot better this time around.

Zhukayev Makes Senior Debut
21-year-old Zhukayev has never played on the senior circuit before this. Even on the Challenger tour, the 326th-ranked Zhukayev has had to make it through the qualifiers, like was the case recently in Istanbul where he entered the quarterfinal in the lead-up to this home tournament.
Not so long ago, Zhukayev became a semifinalist at the Nonthaburi Challenger in Thailand but what’s interesting to note is yet to win a title at either the Futures or the Challengers competitions.
The home advantage should help a tad but will it be enough for Zhukayev to trouble his Dutch opponent? Looks like a difficult proposition.
