Marin Cilic v Oscar Otte Head to Head

In what was his fifth semifinal of the season, Cilic overcame Constant Lestienne to carve out a place in the title-decider of the Tel Aviv Open last week.
It was his first final of the year and while Cilic lost to Novak Djokovic, it would have pleased him no end to have reached that far. Because the former US Open winner had struggled to get things moving in recent times and had slipped to outside the top 40 two years ago.
Last season, Cilic managed to break into the top 30 but it’s his consistency all of this year which has seen him make it to 14th in the world at the moment.
Another good showing in Astana should help Cilic garner a few more important ranking points – and give him a shot at making the ATP Finals. Can he overcome the short turnaround time though?

Otte Searching for Form
Having hit a career-high ranking of 36th in the world, Otte has plummetted back to 55th at the moment and that’s no surprise. It comes on the back of a poor run of form for the German which has seen him win just 17 of the 36 matches he’s played in this year.
What’s interesting to see is that Otte enters this tournament on the back of a doubles final at Sofia on Sunday – making it a quick turnaround between the two tournaments for him.
As far as singles play is concerned, Otte did win a round at Sofia against Dragos Madaras but playing Kamil Majchrzak in the second round, the German went out in three sets despite starting off as a favourite.
Against Cilic, Otte’s form will have to show a major turnaround if he wants to get things moving forward.

Cilic is a huge favourite with the short turnaround time between the finish of his previous tournament and the start of this being the only concern. Still backing Cilic to come through but might see an Otte fight.
