A quarterfinalist in last year’s edition, Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic hopes to go further this time in Ostrava.
For what it is worth, she has the wind in her sails, reaching the semifinal in Tallinn last week (losing to Barbora Krejcikova). Bencic has enjoyed a superb year on the whole; her tally is 36-17, and is the current World No. 14.
As for her silverware collection of 2022, she won the Charleston Open and was a finalist in Berlin. The Swiss was also a semifinalist in the Miami Open and quarterfinalist in Toronto.
As an Olympic Gold medalist and a former World No. 4, Belinda has seen her fair share of top 20 wins on the WTA Tour.
While she is a formidable opponent, she is also not entirely immune from shock defeats – having fallen to Sorana Cirstea, Petra Martic, Qiang Wang, Kaia Kanepi, and Clara Tauson this year.

Bouchard, Hard at Work
After being out of action for over a year due to a shoulder injury and the consequent rehabilitation, Eugenie Bouchard looks to build her rhythm and prepare for the next season.
The Canadian started her year in the Vancouver Challenger in August, where she fell to Arianne Hartono in the opener.
Since then, Bouchard has played in three tournaments, and her best result was the quarterfinal run in the Chennai Open, where she lost to Nadia Podoroska. Her last stint was in Seoul, where she fell to Tatjana Maria in the opener in straight sets.
A former top 10 player, Eugenie started her campaign in Ostrava as a qualifier and beat Oceane Dodin and Dalma Galfi to reach the main draw.
Bencic v Bouchard Prediction and Tip
This is going to be a good match. Bouchard has the experience and pedigree needed to take on Bencic but lacks the momentum – something that her opponent already has in abundance.
For now, the Swiss is the odds-on favourite, but anything can happen.
