Denis Shapovalov v Pierre-Hugues Herbert Head to Head
The two players have never met before on the ATP Tour.
Shapovalov Looking Confident
The 19-year-old Canadian, who impressed a lot of spectators in the previous season, has started his campaign in Montpellier on a brilliant note. Having enjoyed a bye into the second round as the third seed, he defeated the Spaniard Marcel Granollers in straight sets.
It was a much-needed win for Shapovalov, who most recently reached the third round in the Australian Open. He also had a good run in the Davis Cup where he won his two matches against the Slovakian team.
Last year, his best run came in Delray Beach and Madrid, where he reached the semifinal. He also reached the penultimate round in Tokyo but ended up losing to Daniil Medevev in the semis.
Herbert Looking to Improve his Form
The Frenchman, by his standards, has had a very good start to the 2019 ATP season. He first reached the quarterfinal in Doha, where he defeated Dominic Thiem in the first round. He then reached the third round at the Australian Open, where he defeated Sam Querrey and Hyeon Chung on the way.
So far in Montpellier, he has defeated Denis Kudla and Ilya Ivashka without facing a lot of difficulties.
Herbert is currently the World No. 44 – his best singles ranking which he achieved right before coming to Montpellier. Considering his performance last year, it was highly erratic barring a few exceptions. He was the runner-up in Shenzhen and a quarterfinalist in Antalya. He also participated in a couple of Challenger tournaments.
Shapovalov v Herbert Prediction and Tips
Between the two players, Shapovalov will start this match as the favourite to win. He has the momentum and has been in a good form of late. However, he lacks the experience – something that Pierre-Hugues Herbert can very easily capitalise on. This will be an intriguing affair that can very well go either way.
