Nikoloz Basilashvili v Hyeon Chung Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the two men.

Basilashvili, Looking to Consolidate

Basiliashvili will regard 2018 fondly because it was the year he won his first two senior ATP titles, winning both the German Open in July, and then following that up with the China Open title in October where he beat Juan Martin del Potro in the final.

He is now looking to consolidate that progress with more titles and a further rise up the rankings. His year started well, reaching the quarter finals in Doha where he took Novak Djokovic to three sets before losing in the third. He then reached the last 32 in Melbourne before losing to eventual semi-finalist Stefanos Tsisipas.

Last week in Sofia he had a setback, losing to German qualifier Daniel Brands at the first time of asking, but will hope that was just a temporary check to his progress.

Chung – was 2018 a Flash in the Pan?

Although he had been making steady progress up the world rankings since turning pro in 2014, it was the 2018 Australian Open that brought Chung’s name to a wider audience when he became the first South Korean to reach a Grand Slam semi-final.

He followed that up by reaching his maiden quarter-final at a Masters Event in Indian Wells, and repeated that feat in Miami.

That helped propel him into the world’s top 20, but, since then, has failed to really build on that, and he has not enjoyed the best of starts to the year.

He lost in the first rounds in both Pune and Auckland, and was not in the best of form when he reached Melbourne again. Seeded 24 for the tournament, he survived a five-setter against American Bradley Klahn in the first round, but saw his participation in the event ended by Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France in the last 64.

Rotterdam will be his first tournament in nearly a month, and he needs to find some form to protect his current world ranking of 50.

Basilashvili v Chung Predictions & Tips

Basilashvili is not only the higher ranked player but, of the two, the player in form. Chung will be hoping that he can rediscover the touch and confidence that he showed in the early part of last year but at 11/10 with bet365 , Basilashvili does look like a good option.
