Aslan Karatsev v Mikael Ymer Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, and that was in Washington earlier this year, Ymer winning in three sets.

Karatsev Ends Losing Streak

Karatsev came into this tournament in the middle of a prolonged run of poor form, having won just one match since reaching the second round in Cincinnati at the start of August.

That run included first round defeats at the US Open, as well as in Tel Aviv and Astana.

He is entitled, therefore, to feel better about life having ended that sequence by overcoming the challenge of Tallon Griekspoor in the first round, although there was a slice of luck involved.

The first set, which was largely a service battle, was decided in favour of Karatsev when he forced the only break.

Early in the second set, Karatsev saved break points on his own serve and then broke himself, at which point Lady Luck intervened. Griekspoor felt a knock, decided he could not continue, and retired.

Ymer Untroubled by Dutch Opponent

Ymer needs a few good results to garner enough points to ensure that he remains in the top 100 by the end of the season.

And, so far, his quest in Italy has gone according to plan.

In qualifying he was too strong for Andreas Seppi of Italy, but then had to come from a set down to defeat Borna Gojo of the Netherlands.

A kind draw then pitted him against another qualifier in the first round, Gojo’s compatriot, Tim van Rijthoven, the world number 116.

The Swede, though, breezed through the first set for the loss of one game, and was barely troubled in the second either.

The match lasted less than an hour.

Karatsev v Ymer Prediction and Tip

Although the Swede holds the psychological advantage of having won their previous match, Karatsev at his best should win this encounter, and, now he is back to winning ways again, he will be hopeful of building on that.

Tip: Karatsev to win: 5/7 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
