Niemeier Upsets Bogdan
Jule Niemeier is off to a scintillating start in Cluj-Napoca as she upset the home favourite, number three seed Ana Bogdan.
The 23-year-old won the match 7-6(5), 6-2, to improve her win-loss record to 38-20 for the season so far. She is currently World No. 74 – just two places shy of her career-best ranking.
Jule started the season outside the top 100 and having made it so far, she is nicely positioned for a good spell in 2023.
Niemeier’s highlights of the year include a title each from the ITF and Challenger circuit and, more impressively, a quarterfinal run in Wimbledon and a fourth-round stint in the US Open.
Of course, there is still room for improvement in her form as she lost to Jasmine Paolini in the Parma Ladies Open most recently. The German is not entirely immune and Rakhimova will fancy her chances.

Rakhimova Moves Past Danilovic
Kamilla Rakhimova, a 21-year-old Russian who is currently #127, started in the Transylvania Open as a qualifier. In the early rounds, she moved past Oksana Selekhmeteva and Oceane Dodin without dropping set.
In the first match, she dispatched Olga Danilovic 6-2, 6-4, to record her first main-draw win on the tour since July (WTA Budapest). Back then, she fell to Lesia Tsurenko in round two and has since lost in the opening/qualifying rounds.
That said, Rakhimova won an ITF event in the United States to compensate for the lack of traction.
Looking at her overall season, there have been only two tournaments where she won more than two matches in the week – WTA Melbourne (quarterfinal) and WTA Bogota (semifinal).
Niemeier v Rakhimova Prediction and Tip
Niemeier has the clear edge here; she has been more consistent this year when compared to Rakhimova and has a superior pedigree. A straight-set win is certainly on the cards for her, although she will need to be careful.
Tip: Niemeier to Win 2-0: 7/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
