Having won his maiden ATP title less nearly two weeks ago, Nakashima continued to show his mettle despite his early exit from the Japan Open last week.
The American, who has risen up to his career-best ranking of 46th in the world, crushed French veteran Richard Gasquet 6-2, 6-2 in a match lasting an hour and five minutes to move into the second round.
With two breaks in each of the two sets, Nakashima raced away to the win, even as he himself had no difficulties holding his serve, facing no break-points in the entire encounter.
Nakashima, who had lost to Borna Coric in the second round in Tokyo, will now face an opponent ranked 230th in the world.

Çelikbilek Wins Maiden ATP Match
Having never qualified for the main draw of any of the Grand Slams and with no previous ATP victory under his belt, Çelikbilek wasn’t expected to do too much coming into this tournament qualifiers.
To have then defeated Roman Safiullin in the very first qualifying round despite starting out as a 3/1 underdog in the encounter was achievement enough.
And then to overcome the experienced Italian Andrea Vavassori in the second after being 11/10 odds going into that one too made it two surprises in a row for Çelikbilek.
It was in the first round that Çelikbilek faced Giulio Zeppieri and for a change started off an 8/11 favourite, but to then have clinched it 6-3, 6-2 to march into round two speaks volumes about his confidence.
Against Nakashima things will obviously get way tougher but for now, Çelikbilek will be basking in glory from his maiden win.

Nakashima, who is 1/5 to win this, should have no difficulties getting past his opponent in straight sets. Expect a quick workout for the American.
