Parrizas Diaz Ends Losing Streak

Nuria Parrizas Diaz ended a five-match losing streak by beating Irina Bara in the opening round of the Transylvania Open.

The series of defeats for Parrizas Diaz had begun in the quarterfinals of the Granby Open and since then she had lost in the opening rounds at the U.S. Open, WTA 125 in Budapest, Parma and Monastir.

But that run ended Tuesday as the world no. 75 eased past Bara in straight sets.

The 31-year-old Spaniard raced to a 5-0 lead by breaking her opponent thrice in the first set. Bara got a break back but was broken again in the very next game as the Spaniard took the first set. In the second, it was the Romanian who broke in the first game of the set, but Parrizas Diaz took charge from there on and broke Bara twice to win the match 6-1, 7-5.

A semifinalist in Monterrey and a quarterfinalist at Melbourne Summer Set 2, Parrizas Diaz lost form after a decent start to the season and that led to a fall in the rankings.

Having started off well in Romania, can she reach a sixth WTA quarterfinal of the season?

Galfi Takes Down the Ninth Seed

Hungary’s Dalma Galfi ousted ninth seed Lucia Bronzetti of Italy in the first round on Wednesday.

The world no. 89 bounced back after conceding the opening set to send the world no. 63 packing with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory.

After Bronzetti converted 2 of 3 break points and saved 1 of 3 in the opening set, she didn’t hold another break point in the entire match, while the Hungarian converted 2 of 4 in the second and the only one she held in the deciding set.

Galfi has improved her season record to 37-22 from all levels but she is 7-9 in the main draws on the tour.

She picked one ITF title in Ilkley and reached her maiden Challenger final at the Contrexéville Open, finishing runner-up. her best on hard court so far has been a run to the third round at the U.S. Open, where she beat Parrizas Diaz en route.

She will be aiming to reach her first tour-level quarterfinal of the season on Thursday.

Parrizas Diaz v Galfi Prediction and Tip

Parrizas Diaz was short on confidence coming into the first round as she had lost five in a row, but a good start would have restored her confidence. She did lose to Galfi in straight sets at the U.S. Open, but she has delivered better results on the surface in 2022 in big tournaments and will be expected to get her revenge against the Hungarian. The Spaniard should reach the last eight.

Tip: Parrizas Diaz to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
