Potapova Knocks Out Bondar in Three
World no. 48 Anastasia Potapova was pushed to three sets in her quarterfinal match on Friday, but she still came out on top defeating eighth seed Anna Bondar of Hungary.
A champion in Istanbul and runner-up in Prague, Potapova will be competing in her fifth semifinal of the season on Saturday.
The Russian improved her season record to 35-22, from all levels, following her 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 quarterfinal victory.
Potapova edged out Bondar in a close first set and then the Hungarian fought back from a break down in the second to tie the match at one set apiece. It was the 21-year-old Russian who took charge of the final set and calimed the set in just over 30 minutes.
The World no. 48 had won her first two rounds in straight sets, defeating Ann Li 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in the first round and Viktorija Golubic 6-2, 6-3 in the second round.

Blinkova Remains Perfect Against Kalinina
Anna Blinkova continued her winning streak in Cluj Napoca, winning a fifth match in the tournament on Friday and reaching a first tour-level semifinal of the season.
Blinkova who had come into the quarterfinals with a 4-0 head-to-head record against Anhelina Kalinina, kept her perfect record against the Ukrainian intact as she came back from a set down to defeat the second seed 6-7 (7-9), 6-1, 6-3.
Blinkova converted 6 of 13 break points in the match and saved 6 of 8 to oust the World no. 45 in two hours and 39 minutes.
Ranked no. 138th in the world, Blinkova had qualified for the main draw with straight set victories over Lesia Tsurenko and Mirjam Bjorklund. She didn’t drop a set in the first round either, defeating fellow Russian qualifier Anastasia Zakharova, but was taken to the deciding set by China’s Wang Xinyu in the second round, however, Blinkova dominated the final set in that match too to keep moving forward in the tournament.
Blinkova has reached four lower level finals this year, one of which was a WTA 125 final in Saint Malo and the other three were in ITF tournaments. However, she is yet to win a title this year.

Potapova has performed well at the top level throughout the year, winning matches on a consistent basis. Blinkova has mostly been successful in lower level tournaments, but she is looking in great touch in this tournament. She also has won the only meeting against Potapova, so expect this one to be a close affair, but the fourth seed will be the favourite to end the qualifier’s run.
