Brooksby on a Three-Match Losing Streak

Having lost three on the trot, Jenson Brooksby will be a bit worried about his recent form as he gears up for his Basel debut.

The 21-year-old, who lost in the semifinal of the Korea Open to Denis Shapovalov, went down in the opening rounds of the previous two tournaments in Florence and Antwerp.

While he pushed Mackenzie McDonald to three in Florence, he was outplayed in a one-sided contest against Jack Draper in Antwerp last week. Overall, Brooksby is 24-21 for the season, with his best coming in Dallas and Atlanta. The American reached the finals of both the tournaments but went down to Reilly Opelka and Alex de Minaur respectively.

Brooksby, who is far more comfortable playing on hard courts than on other surfaces, has so far featured in three career finals, but is still looking to lift his first trophy at the ATP level.

The other notable performances for the world no. 50 this year include last 16 finishes in Indian Wells, Miami and Rome. Can he get over his recent setbacks and hit the court running in Basel?

Humbert Comes through Qualifiers

After struggling big time for most parts on the tour and witnessing a steep fall in his ranking, Ugo Humbert finally struck form again at the Challenger level.

Over the last three months, the Frenchman has played plenty of Challenger tournaments and with great degree of success, winning the title in Rennes and making the semifinals of four other hard courts tournaments. Thanks to those performances, the lefty, who had fallen to as low as 157 in July, is once again closing in on a top 100 spot.

Currently ranked no. 103, Humbert has qualified for the main draw in Basel and will be looking to earn a rare opening round win on the tour on Wednesday. This year, Humbert has lost in the first round on 12 occasions and brings an 8-20 season record into the tournament. However, if one was to include the Challenger and qualifying rounds, Humbert is 32-27 this season.

In the qualifying rounds, Humbert defeated Bernabe Zapata Miralles in straight sets and then ousted another struggling player in Aslan Karatsev in three to reach the main draw. He is 13-3 from his last 16 matches, with most of the wins coming on the Challenger tour. Can he keep the momentum going in Basel?

Brooksby v Humbert Prediction and Tip

Humbert is in slightly better form at the moment. Although all his recent wins have come in lower level tournaments but he is looking in great shape, while Brooksby has seen a decline in form. Expect a close contest with the qualifier edging past the American.
