Garbine Muguruza v Lauren Davis Head to Head

The two ladies have met only once so far, back in the 2013 Libema Open. Muguruza won that match 6-2, 6-0.

Muguruza Looking Confident

The Spaniard spent most of her previous season struggling greatly with her form owing to which, she slipped out of the top 10. This time around, the two-time Grand Slam champion has started her season on a rather positive note and is slowly rebuilding her confidence.

Following a second-round loss in the WTA Sydney, Muguruza reached the fourth round in the Australian Open, where she lost to Karolina Pliskova.

She then followed this with a couple of back to back appearances in the quarterfinal of Hua Hin Championships and WTA Dubai. Last time she won a trophy was in the Monterrey Open Mexico last year, where she defeated Timea Babos in the final.

Step by step, Muguruza is slowly fighting her way into the top 10 again but she has a long road ahead of her. To begin with, she will have to move past Davis which may be tricky for her, given that last year in Indian Wells, she lost to the American qualifier Sachica Vickery in her opening match.

Davis Gets a Wildcard

Lauren Davis, who is currently the World No. 199, received a wildcard into the main draw of the WTA Indian Wells this year. This is her third WTA event of the season and so far, she hasn’t fared that well.

In Auckland, she lost to Lara Arruabarrena while in the Australian Open, she barely made it past the qualifiers.

However, Davis did have some luck in the 125K Series event in Newport Beach, where she reached the semifinal. She followed this with a couple of appearances in the same tier tournaments in Midland and Indian Wells but lost in the first round.

Right now, Davis is off to a good start with a straight-set win over Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in her opening match.

Garbine Muguruza v Lauren Davis Tips & Predictions

Muguruza is going to start this match as the favourite to win. It is hard to imagine her succumbing to Davis although, the possibility does exist. Needless to mention, the Spaniard will be keen to avoid a stunning upset like last year.

Tip: Muguruza to win 2-0: 8/13 (betway)
