Alcaraz Dumps Out Carreno Busta

World no. 1 Carlos Alcaraz is one win way away from reaching an eighth final of the year after the 19-year-old Spaniard knocked out Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarterfinal of Friday.

Alcaraz, who had 12 break point chances in the match, was the only one to break serve in the first set. In the second, he got off to a 2-0 lead, but saw Carreno Busta pull the break back in the fourth game. But the younger pro broke again in the ninth game and then held serve to win 6-3, 6-4.

It was the second consecutive straight sets win for the reigning U.S. Open champion, who had needed a comeback win to oust Jack Draper in the first round. In the second round, Alcaraz had beaten Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4, 6-2.

Alcaraz is now 4-2 since the U.S. Open and has improved his season record to 55-13. Besides winning his first major title at Flushing Meadows, Alcaraz also won titles in Rio, Miami, Barcelona and Madrid and finished runner-up in Hamburg and Umag. Can he get his first win over Auger-Aliasisme on Saturday and get closer to a seventh career title and a sixth this year?

Auger-Aliassime Powers Past Bublik

Felix Auger-Aliassime got his 11th win in a row as he took another step towards a third consecutive title.

A champion in Florence and Antwerp over the last two weeks, the Canadian has kept his wining run intact in Basel.

After a tough come-from-behind win over local hope Marc-Andrea Huesler in the first round, Auger-Aliassime thrashed Miomir Kecmaonvic 6-1, 6-0 in the second round and he kept the rhythm going in the quarterfinal on Friday, when he handed world no. 38 Alexander Bublik a straight sets drubbing.

Auger-Aliassime, who lost the first set to Huessler in the tiebreak in the first round, has not faced a break point in the tournament. Both Auger-Aliasisme and Bublik served 10 aces in the quarterfinals, but it was the world no. 9 who struck 31 winners to Bublik’s 19. He also converted 4 of 11 break points to win in an hour and 12 minutes.

Auger-Aliassime is chasing a fourth title and a win on Saturday will lift him into a 13th final. Interestingly all three of his title have come this year. The 22-year-old won his first in Rotterdam and then back-to-back in the previous two tournaments. There was on more final that he featured in this year, finishing runner-up in Marseille. With all four finals coming on indoor hard courts he has improved his indoor record to 20-3 this year. Can he improve that further on Saturday?

Alcaraz v Auger-Aliassime Prediction and Tip

Auger-Aliassime is a player to beat on indoor courts. He is also in red-hot form and to top it all, has not lost to Alcaraz in their previous meetings. Two of those wins have come this year and he seems poised to beat the Spaniard again.
