Angelique Kerber v Barbora Strycova Head to Head
This upcoming encounter will be the ninth time that the two ladies will face each other on the tour. So far, Kerber has dominated the head to head tall heavily and presently holds a 7-1 lead over Strycova.
They last met in 2018 at the WTA Dubai, where the German won 6-2, 6-1. As for Strycova’s only win over Kerber, that came in Madrid in 2016.
Strycova’s First Quarterfinal of the Season
Barbora Strycova is currently the No. 5 on the doubles circuit, courtesy of her semifinal run with Marketa Vondrousova in the Australian Open a few weeks back.
As a singles player, however, she hasn’t had the best of luck this season. In the three tournaments that she played in so far – Auckland, Sydney, and Melbourne, she has lost her opening matches.
In Doha, however, she managed to break that jinx in great style. In the first round, she edged past Fatma Al Nabhani with 6-1, 6-1, following which she met Anna Blinkova. That match lasted for three sets and impressively, Strycova won 6-0, 3-6, 6-0.
Strycova’s previous season was also along the same lines. She hasn’t won a title since the 2017 WTA Linz. Her best run of the year came in Birmingham where she reached the semifinal.
Kerber Looking Confident
It is fair to say that Angelique Kerber was handed a tough first-round match against Anett Kontaveit. In the past, she had succumbed to Kontaveit twice and going into that fixture, those defeats must have been on the back of her mind.
However, Kerber handled that match superbly and put her demons to rest. She defeated the young Estonian 6-1, 7-6(3) and booked a spot in the quarterfinal.
With that win, Kerber has made it to the quarterfinal for the second time this year, with the other instance being the WTA Sydney. Between then and now, she also participated in the Australian Open where she lost to Danielle Collins in the fourth round.
Kerber v Strycova Predictions & Tips
Given her track record against Strycova, Kerber will start this match as the favourite to win. As a singles player, she is far superior when compared to the Czech. For this, Unibet are offering 1/5. The three-time Grand Slam champion should be able to win this one comfortably.
You can watch & bet on Angelique Kerber v Barbora Strycova on Thursday, February 14. The match will be held after 4:30 pm local time.
