Beatriz Haddad Maia v Martina Trevisan Head to Head

Their only previous meeting at the highest level came at the Rogers Cup last season where Haddad Maia registered a three-set win to move into the second round.

Haddad Maia Won Two Titles Last Season

Having begun the 2022 season and hit a low of 88th in the world in the second week of January, Haddad Maia ended the year at her career-best ranking of 15th on the WTA charts. Not surprisingly, the Brazilian star won the WTA award for the Most Improved Player of the Year.

Haddad Maia’s performances became even more pronounced given she won a couple of titles, and both of them came on grass – at Nottingham and Birmingham.

Not to forget, she was a runner-up at the Rogers Cup where she stunned Iga Swiatek, Belindad Bencic and Karolina Pliskova on her way to the title-decider where she finally went down fighting to Simona Halep.

Haddad Maia will hope to continue in the same vein as she takes to court in this first-time competition as she hopes to put Brazil on to the tennis map. A strong showing here could go a long way in doing just that and she has a clay court specialist against her.

Trevisan Close to Her Best But Struggles on Hard Courts

Trevisan’s record in 2022 was good enough to help her finish the season ranked 27th in the world, three short of her career-best ranking.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t underline her reliance on her favourite clay, with the Italian player winning just five matches on outdoor hard court surfaces.

Even over the years, Trevisan has struggled in hard court tournaments and has won just 39 of her 79 matches in such tournaments – these includes qualifying rounds and the ITF circuit.

Which is why coming into this competition which will be played on hard court surfaces, it might be much to expect Trevisan to perform as well as she otherwise does. And against a player of the class of her Brazilian opponent, things could get even trickier.
