Lucia Bronzetti v Laura Pigossi Head to Head
While they have faced off on two occasions before this, neither of them have come in main draws of WTA events.
The first was at an ITF event on clay in 2017 and Pigossi had won that in straight sets but more recently, the qualifiers at the Monterrey Open had seen Bronzetti eke out a three-set win.

The months of July and August in 2022 were the most productive for Bronzetti as she made the finals at two separate events on different surfaces.
At Palermo on clay, she stunned Caroline Garcia on her way to the title-decider before doing the same at Vancouver on hard court in August. This was after Bronzetti had finished up in the round of 16 at the Miami Open thanks to a shock win over Ajla Tomljanovic.
Unfortunately for Bronzetti, her form fell away drastically after that as she slumped to seven defeats in a row following the Vancouver showing.
It was only in Limoges at a WTA 125 event two weeks ago that Bronzetti finally managed a small resurrection as she made the semifinal. She will hope she can continue from where she had left off there.

Pigossi More Tuned in to Clay
2021 was one of Pigossi’s best seasons in terms of improvement as she jumped from a season-low ranking of 398th to breaking into the top 200.
In 2022, Pigossi continued to consolidate as she broke into the top 100 for the first time – she was ranked 100th for a week before the US Open – before ending the season at 118th in the world.
And while Pigossi did not win a single title even at the ITF level – she had three in 2021 – she did make the final at Barranquilla in November. That was a tournament on a hard court surface, with Pigossi more receptive to clay where she has won four of her seven ITF titles.
Can she put up a bit of a challenge for Bronzetti here?

Bronzetti is an obvious favourite here and we will have to go with her for a win here. We also think, Pigossi might put up a fight in one of the sets but don’t think that will be enough for her to really push her Italian opponent.
