Bonzi Looking to Consolidate Progress in 2023

Having won six Challenger titles in 2021, Bonzi really began to make his mark on the senior tour last season, beginning with the Australian Open, where he won his first ever Grand Slam match.

He also reached the second round in Wimbledon and at the US Open, and got to the third round stage in Indian Wells, although he was unable to replicate that achievement at any of the other Masters’ events across the season.

Periodically he returned to the Challenger tour, winning further titles in February and June, both on home soil, in Cherbourg and Aix-en-Provence.

He reached his first senior ATP semi-final in Marseille, before eventually losing to Andrey Rublev, and then his second in Mallorca, enabling him to reach a career high ranking.

His last action was in a Challenger event in October, but he had to pull out of the tournament after suffering a minor injury.

In 2023 he will be looking to consolidate and build on the achievements of last season.

NextGen ATP Finalist Tseng

Tseng is the highest ranked Taiwanese player and a former junior Grand Slam winner. He won the boys’ singles at the French Open in 2018, after which he was the number one ranked junior in the world. And the following month, he beat Jack Draper to claim the Wimbledon title.

He has won three titles on the Challenger circuit, with two of those wins coming in 2022, the first of those, perhaps pertinently, coming on Indian soil in Bengaluru last February.

In addition, he was the beaten finalist in another Challenger tournament.

On the main tour, highlights included qualifying for the French Open for the first time, although he then lost to Joāo Sousa of Portugal in five sets, and reaching the semi-finals in Bratislava, which saw him reach a career high ranking.

Briefly he broke into the top 100, before slipping down again.

Tseng qualified for the NextGen ATP Finals in Milan, but lost all three of his round robin matches.

Bonzi v Tseng Prediction and Tip

Despite Tseng’s undoubted potential, Bonzi has established himself on the main tour now, and he will expect to make a winning start to his 2023 campaign.
