Solid 2022 Season for van de Zandschulp

Van de Zandschulp was outside the top 150 on the ATP Rankings in 2021 but a string of solid results between mid-2021 through to the 2022 season helped him earn a place in the top 25 for the first time in his career.

And while the Dutchman did lose some of the sting as 2022 went on, he still managed to end the year ranked 35th in the world.

The trouble for van de Zandschulp came after his semifinal stint at the Winston-Salem Open where he made the semifinal. In the six ATP tournaments that followed soon after that, he failed to win two matches in a row.

This is a new season though and a now-refreshed van de Zandschulp will hope to get back to his winning ways starting with this first match of the year against Cobolli.

Qualifier Cobolli Eases Past Mukund

Ranked 171st in the world, Cobolli had come into his opening round match on the back of successive straight-set wins in the qualifiers of this tournament.

And then taking on a 340th-ranked and wildcard entrant Sai Kumar Mukund meant Cobolli had a good chance to making it three in three. That’s exactly what happened with the Italian coming 6-4, 7-5 to seal just the second win of his career at the highest level.

In a match lasting an hour and 40 minutes, Cobolli was broken three times including both times he first served in the set, but came back well to carve out the win.

Against the much higher pedigreed van de Zandschulp though, Cobolli will have to do a lot better on his serve if he has to make things count.

van de Zandschulp v Cobolli Prediction and Tip

Anything less than a straight-set win for van de Zandschulp would come as a surprise with rustiness being the only factor that could go against him.
