John Isner v Peter Polansky Head to Head
The players have never met on the ATP circuit.
Isner Looking for a Deep Run at Delray Beach
American number one John Isner had his best year on tour in 2018, winning his first ATP Masters 1000 in Miami, qualifying for the Wimbledon semi-finals and ending the year in the top ten of the ATP rankings, as well as qualifying for the Tour Finals in London.
2019 has not got off to the best of starts for Isner. After his loss at the Paris Masters, in late 2018, Isner was on a six match losing streak until his opening round victory at the New York Open last week.
Isner lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Reilly Opelka in four tie-breaks, and again lost to him in a battle of tie-breaks last week in the semi-finals of the New York Open. Opelka went on to win the title in New York.
Inner makes his seventh appearance at the hard courts of Delray Beach and has been a losing semi-finalist on three consecutive appearances between 2012 and 2014. Giant serving Isner will be hoping to back up his serve with his much developed game from 2018, as he looks for a deep run this week to maintain a stronghold on his top ten ATP ranking.
Can Polansky Pull Off a First Round Upset?
Canadian Peter Polansky has been on the ATP tennis circuit for more than a decade. A career that was mixed with inconsistent form and indifferent results, as well as injuries, Polansky displayed promise but never capitalized. His 2010 second round appearance at the US Open was the only time he went past the first round of a major, in eight attempts.
2018 was his best year on tour where he reached a career high number 110 in the rankings, and is currently ranked 119. Polansky has never won an ATP singles title.
Isner v Polansky Predictions & Tips
Polansky will have to serve well to stay in the sets with Isner, who on these hard courts will be difficult to break. Isner of 2019 has not yet shown the spark he did in 2018. He will be hoping for a routine win here giving him confidence for a deep run over the week. Although Isner has been a bit off color thus far in 2019, expect a straight sets win for the big serving American.
