Following on from winning her opener at the Auckland Open last week against Xinyu Wang, Kenin repeated the same dose at another Chinese player, Lin Zhu. And this time around it was an even easier win for Kenin.
The American cruised through to the second round, carving out a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Last week though, Kenin then faced Cori Gauff in the second round and was sent packing by the eventual winner of that tournament. This time, the former Australian Open winner will be up against a player ranked 87th in the world.
Surely, she has a better chance of progressing beyond the second round.

Qualifier Zanevska Stuns Mertens
While Zanevska was a favourite going into both of her qualifiers, one did not expect her to come through her opening round encounter.
Not the bookmakers at least, having offered 2/1 for her win over Elise Mertens, a former world number 12. And yet, Zanevska cruised through to a 6-4, 6-4 win in a match lasting an hour and 54 minutes.
It looked like it could have been anyone’s game in the first set when both players went on a breaking spree. There were seven breaks of serves in the first set with only three holds in all.
The last of those seven was a decisive one for Zanevska who won the set off her third set-point.
The second set was in sharp contrast to the first with neither player managing to get the better of the other’s serve till very late. In fact, the only thing in common between the two sets was Mertens was forced to serve to stay in the set/match and lost her serve there.
Can Zanevska do something similar against Kenin though?
