Stefanos Tsitsipas v Sergiy Stakhovsky Head to Head

The pair have met once before on the ATP Challenger tour in the semi-final of the outdoor hard tournament played in Portorož, Slovenia, in 2017. On that occasion it was Stakhovsky who won in three sets.

Tsitsipas – Wanting to Justify Top Seeding

Tsitsipas is seeded one for this tournament, based on his world ranking of twelve. However, he will be aware, more than anybody that his current ranking is largely due to his run at the Australian Open where he reached the semi-finals.

Since then his results have been somewhat disappointing – he was beaten in the Quarter-Finals by Gael Monfils in the quarter-finals in Sofia, and crashed out to Damir Džumhur of Bosnia in the second round in Rotterdam.

He, therefore, is looking for a good week to justify his seeding and world ranking. He got off to a good start on Wednesday, beating Pole Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets, but he knows tougher challenges lie ahead.

Stakhovsky – Lucky Loser Doing Well

Stakhovsky only qualified for entry into the main draw in Marseille as a lucky loser. He was a winner over Mirza Basic in the opening qualifier before losing in the second match he played against Constant Lestienne. As luck would have it, he qualified to the main draw of the tournament as a lucky loser and faced the same opponet in his opener.

His quarter-final entry includes a battling victory over qualifier Lestienne in the first round, and then another more straight forward victory over another lucky loser Grégoire Barrère on Thursday night.

He has capitalised on his good fortune, and, whatever happens on Friday, will be guaranteed a decent-sized cheque for his week’s work.

Tsitsipas v Stakhovsky Predictions & Tips

Tsitsipas will start the overwhelming odds–on favourite against a man ranked more than 130 places below him in the world rankings. Stakhovsky may have capitalised on his lucky loser status so far this week, but his good fortune is likely to run out on Friday. Tsitsipas to win two sets to love here (1/2 with bet365 ).
