Wang Xiyu v Zhu Lin Head to Head
Zhu leads the rivalry 2-1. She won the first two matches between the two, while Wang won the most recent battle in Acapulco in 2020.

Wang Looking for First Win in 2023
World no. 53 Wang Xiyu had a promising run in 2022, but the 21-year-old is yet to win her first match in 2023.
Wang had to withdraw from her first match of the season in Auckland, retiring while she trailed Karolina Muchova 3-5 in the first set. She then headed to the Australian Open short of match practice and was blown away by Karolina Pliskova in straight sets.
Wang’s challenge in doubles also ended in the first round, when she along with her partner Magda Linette lost in three sets to the pairing of Ena Shibahara and Shuko Aoyama.
Wang had a 41-25 record across levels last year. She reached her first WTA Challenger final in Valencia and also defeated some big names throughout the season, including Barbora Krejcikova, Donna Vekic, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sakkari.
That win over Sakkari came at the U.S. Open, where Wang made her third round debut. She reached the semifinals in Washington and Cluj Napoca-2 and was a quarterfinalist in Budapest and Granby.
The left-hander will be competing in Hua Hin for the second time. In her first attempt in 2020, she went down to eventual champion Magda Linette in the quarterfinal. Can she go that far this year?

Zhu in Fantastic Form
World no. 87 Zhu Lin is off to a brilliant start in 2022 and she will be bringing a lot of confidence into the Hua Hin Open.
Zhu is 5-3 in 2023 and has already featured in a quarterfinal, record her first top 10 win and delivered her best ever Grand Slam result.
Zhu began the season with wins over Madison Brengle and Venus Williams in Auckland, before losing to Coco Gauff in the last eight stage. She then lost two in a row, after going down to Sofia Kenin in the opening round in Hobart.
But she overcame the setback in the first major of the season in Melbourne. Zhu eased past Rebecca Marino in the first round, trounced 32nd seed Jil Teichmann in the next and then edged past Maria Sakkari in three sets to register her first ever top 10 win.
The 29-year-old also played high quality tennis in the fourth round, but lost to Azarenka despite taking the opening set.
Zhu was knocked out in round of 16 in 2020, but given her form this year, she could shock the third seed in the opener and then try to produce her best ever result in the tournament.
She too had a pretty good 2022, finishing with a 41-26 record across levels. She won three ITF titles, all on hard courts.
Can she continue to build on her impressive start in Thailand?
Wang v Zhu Prediction and Tip
Zhu has had a great start to the season. She looked particularly dangerous at the Australian Open, going toe-to-toe with some top names. She has also shown better form on hard courts than her opponent. So Wang may be the third seed, but Zhu could be a slight favourite going into the contest.
