Irina-Camelia Begu v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two players and Siniakova leads 3-1. On hardcourt surfaces, it’s 2-1 in favour of Siniakova which includes a win at the Indian Wells Open in their last match-up in 2022.

Begu Starts off as an Adelaide Semifinalist
It was in 2016 that Begu had hit her career-best ranking of 22nd in the world but since then she hasn’t quite managed to replicate her successes.
In fact, between 2018 and 2022 Begu hadn’t returned back to the top 30 on the WTA charts and even fallen out of the top 100 at one stage. In more recent times, Begu has turned things around though, by the looks of it.
Last year, she won a title in Palermo and ended the season ranked 34th in the world.
And Begu kick-started this year with wins over Shelby Rogers, Jelena Ostapenko and Veronika Kudermetova to make it to the semifinal of the Adelaide International.
While she would have loved to do a lot better than her second round exit at the Australian Open, Begu’s recent consistency demands a look-in as one of the players to watch out in this competition.

Siniakova Aiming to Avoid Seventh Successive Opening Defeat Here
Siniakova has featured in the Linz Open on six previous occasions and every single time she has lost in the first round here.
What makes things doubly difficult for her to turn things around is her record this year, which reads a woeful three tournaments played, one main draw match won.
At the Adelaide International, Siniakova failed to make the main draw as she fell to a qualifying loss at the hands of Claire Liu. At the Adelaide competition which followed after that, Siniakova made the main draw and defeated an injured Anastasia Potapova but lost to Caroline Garcia in the second.
And at the Australian Open, Siniakova was drawn to play one of the pre-tournament favourites Cori Gauff and fell away rather quickly.
Now, she takes on Begu who will be a slight favourite but can Siniakova shrug off her slow start and finally claim a victory in Linz?
Begu v Siniakova Prediction and Tip
While Begu is 7/10 to win this, we reckon Siniakova has shown traces of what she is capable of – in the qualifiers and even in losses like the one against Garcia recently. Expect her to carve out a surprise here.
