Zhu Lin v Wang Xinyu Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2019 US Open and Lin had won that first round encounter in straight sets.

Lin Continues Her Brilliant Season

For the second tournament in a row, Lin came through for a third successive win. This time around it was a 6-2, 6-2 rout of Tamara Zidansek which took her a mere hour and 16 minutes.

Having made the fourth round at the Australian Open which propelled her to her career-best ranking of 54th in the world, Lin eased through the first set with two breaks of serves. She had early issues with her serve but once she had saved two break-points in the third game, there was no looking back for her.

In the second set, Lin did lose her serve after having broken her opponent in the previous game. She retaliated with a break in the very next game and then again in the eight game of the set to wrap it up quickly.

Lin had earlier overcome Xiyu Wang and Su Jeong Jang in the first two rounds of the competition. And given the manner in which she has gone about her business it does look like a second WTA title might not be too much of an improbability.

Xinyu Ends Watson’s Fairy-Tale

Xinyu has herself had quite a strong start to the season, having reached the quarterfinal of the Hobart International after starting out in the qualifiers.

She made the second round at the Australian Open and while the world number 81 lost to Madison Keys there, she has continued her solid showing here in Hua Hin.

After taking down Joanne Zuger in the first round and getting past Mirjam Bjorklund, Xinyu needed three sets against the fighting Heather Watson but managed to find a way through.

Xinyu won 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-4 in the quarterfinal, needing two hours and 42 minutes to get past her fighting British opponent. In a match that had 11 breaks of serve, Xinyu got the better of exchanges with seven of them to her name.

Can she now take down her countrywoman but a player in form?

Lin v Xinyu Prediction and Tip

No surprises here that Lin is a favourite at 8/15 but can Xinyu push this into a third? We don’t think so.
