Stefanos Tsitsipas v Egor Gerasimov Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the ATP Tour. However, the two players have met once before at a lower-level tournament in Andria, Italy. The match took place in 2016 and it was Gerasimov who won that match in three sets.

Tsitsipas Starts on a Shaky Note

The Greek No. 1 started his journey in Dubai on a rather rocky note with a three-set win over the Australian Matthew Ebden. While he managed to win the match 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, there were instances when Tsitsipas appeared to be out of sorts. Nonetheless, with that win, he has now sailed into the second round.

Tsitsipas, who is currently ranked at the 11th position, won the Marseille Open last week after defeating Mikhail Kukushkin in the final. He also had a brilliant performance in the Australian Open, where he was a semifinalist. On his way there, he moved past the likes of Roger Federer and Roberto Bautista Agut.

At the same time, his spell so far has been marked by a couple of shocking losses too. In Rotterdam, he incurred a first-round loss to Damir Dzumhur while in Sydney, he was knocked out by Andreas Seppi in the quarters.

Egor’s Best Run of the Season

The Belarusian player stared in Dubai as a qualifier and has now made it to the second round. This is, by far, his best performance in the season. In his opening match here, he defeated the veteran Dutch Robin Haase in straight sets.

Before this, he played in Marseille where he lost his first round fixture in the main draw to Fernando Verdasco. In fact, that was the first time that Gerasimov qualified for the main draw in a competition this year. He had a couple of stints on the Challenger circuit too but to no avail.

Last year too, Egor had a similar spell on the tour barring a few exceptions. He reached the quarterfinal in St. Petersburg as a qualifier and ultimately lost to Adrian Mannarino.

Tsitsipas v Gerasimov Predictions & Tips

Tsitsipas will be expected to win this one. It is hard to imagine the Belarusian knocking out the World No. 11, given that he lacks the exposure and form required for that kind of an upset. Nonetheless, there is a slim chance although, it is going to be extremely difficult.
