Petra Martic v Marina Bassols Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 32 year old Croat, and the Spaniard, who is nine years her junior.

Martic Makes Belated Return to Linz
Martic returns to Linz after a decade, having been a regular visitor to the Austrian tournament before that, with her best result coming in 2012, when she reached the last eight.
After several years of indifferent form, she had a career renaissance in 2022, winning the Lausanne Open in July. That was her second senior career title, and her first since 2019.
In addition, she reached the quarter-final stage in Indian Wells, Warsaw and Tokyo.
But she has really failed to get going so far in 2023.
She lost two out of the three matches she played for Croatia at the United Cup, and at the Australian Open, she was beaten in the second round by Shuai Zhang, losing in straight sets.
Last week in Lyon, she battled past the doubles specialist Katerina Mladenovic, but then was beaten in three sets by the surprise package of the week, Alycia Parks of the USA, who went on to claim her maiden title.

Bassols Aiming to Make Personal History
Bassols is aiming to do something against Martic than she has never achieved before in her career, and that is reach the second round of a main tour WTA event.
In five previous attempts, she has come up short.
That included last week in Lyon, where she came through qualifying, only to lose to Anastasia Potapova, despite taking the first set off the world number 44.
However, she has put herself in contention to lose her unwanted record by qualifying again in Linz.
First she defeated Miriam Kolodziejova of the Czech Republic in straight sets, and then survived a three set battle with the German world number 234, Noma Akugue Noha.
Martic v Bassols Prediction and Tip
By the law of averages, Bassols will be hoping that, one day soon, she can shed her unwanted record of never having reached the second round of a senior tournament. Martic, though, will be determined this will not happen today.
