Belinda Bencic of Switzerland has been in phenomenal form this season. She is 8-2 and has already picked up a singles title from Adelaide International 2. She followed that with a fourth-round showing in the Australian Open, losing to Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets.
The 25-year-old, in the process, beat the likes of Garbine Muguruza, Caroline Garcia, Daria Kasatkina, and Camila Giorgi.
Last year, Bencic picked up 42 victories while incurring only 18 defeats. Her highlights – a title from Charleston, a runner-up feat in Berlin, and a semifinal showing in Miami.
Now ranked World No. 9, the number two seed is the player to beat in Abu Dhabi.

Kostyuk Beats Cirstea
Marta Kostyuk survived a tricky test from the experienced Romanian Sorana Cirstea in the first round. The 20-year-old fought through a rocky three-setter, winning the match 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 in under two hours. She also saved six out of eight break points.
She is currently World No. 57 and is coming off a good run herself. Most recently, she was a quarterfinalist in Hua Hin, where she lost to Bianca Andreescu – but not before beating Nao Hibino and En-Shuo Liang.
Before that, Kostyuk reached the same stage in Adelaide 1 and round three in the Melbourne Slam. Her tally for 2023 stands at 9-4.
The Ukrainian managed to end the 2022 season at 28-20 and two doubles titles from the Slovenia Open and Open de Limoges Challenger. She is gaining experience by competing with the big guns and is certainly capable of causing all sorts of troubles for her opponents.
Bencic v Kostyuk Prediction and Tip
Bencic is the heavy favourite for this one – especially considering her ongoing form and momentum. She doesn’t lose easily against players ranked outside the top 40, but Kostyuk has precedents to build upon. More than that, the youngster is enjoying a good start to the year and has a fair bit of wind behind her sails. If she can trouble Bencic early on, she may cause an upset.
