Daria Kasatkina v Jil Teichmann Head to Head
Kasatkina leads 2-0. The first win came at Billie Jean King Cup in 2021 and the second in the Italian Open quarterfinal last year, when the Swiss retired while trailing 4-6, 2-3.

World no. 8 Daria Kasatkina is the top seed in Abu Dhabi and therefore the Russian has received a first round bye. She will begin her campaign in the second round on Thursday.
Kasatkina, who has a 6-6 record in WTA finals, is 5-5 in hard court finals. Her most recent appearance in a title clash came in Adelaide-2 last month.
The Russian knocked out Barbora Krejcikova and Petra Kvitova in the Round of 16 and the quarterfinals respectively, and then received a walkover in the semifinal against Paula Badosa, but she couldn’t win the title, after being outplayed by Belinda Bencic in straight sets.
Barring those two wins in Adelaide-2, Kasatkina has not won a match this year. She was stunned by Linda Noskova in the first round of her season opener in Adelaide-1 and handed a heavy defeat by Varvara Gracheva in the opening round of the Australian Open.
So even though she has featured in a final this year, she still hasn’t produced a lot of wins and will be a bit short on confidence having been outplayed in her last two matches.

Teichmann Knocks Out Yastremska
World no. 28 Jil Teichmann got her campaign off to a good start as she knocked out Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska in straight sets.
The left-handed Swiss got the only break of the first set in the fourth game and then won a seesaw second set to complete a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) victory in an hour and 41 minutes. Teichmann couldn’t save either of the two break points that she faced but she converted three of five in the match to advance.
The win improved the 25-year-old to 6-3 from all her matches this year. She had a 1-1 record at the United Cup and was knocked out in the second round of both Adelaide-2 and the Australian Open.

Kasatkina has won both their previous meetings, she is the top seed and also ranked in the top 10. So she definitely has the quality and is a touch superior than the Swiss. But her form is a bit iffy and Teichmann may test her, but eventually Kasatkina is expected to prevail.
