Pella Secures Emotional Win

Guido Pella scored a well-deserved first ATP win in 16 months at the Cordoba Open in front of his fans and his family. The Argentine won 6-2 6-2 against Italian qualifier Andrea Vavassori in 81 minutes.

Pella is currently outside the Top 1000 in rankings, after undergoing surgery on a chronic knee injury. It’s been a win over one year in the making for the former Wimbledon quarterfinalist.

Having reached the championship match in Cordoba in 2019, it was fitting that his first win in a while came on this court. Pella with his punchy left-handed groundstrokes was almost unstoppable and his mobility was hardly a concern here.

The 32-year-old won 71% of first-serve points and converted five of his nine break points.

Dellien Puts on a Clinic against Cachin

Hugo Dellien maintained his strong run from qualifying by defeating Pedro Cachin in straight sets at the Cordoba Open. Having lost in the first round in each of his previous four visits to the city, the fifth time was indeed the charm for Bolivia’s No. 1.

Dellien won 6-3 6-4 in an hour and 25 minutes. In a close first set, Dellien posted superior numbers behind his first and second serves. He served both break points he faced in the set. He won 60% of second-serve return points which proved decisive in earning the only break of the set.

In the second set, Dellien’s rally tolerance was excellent. He landed 46% of first serves but still managed to win a healthy 83% of points behind it. He also did not face a single break point.

Cachin was nearly perfect too, but after dropping the first game of the second set, he did not manage to overhaul the Bolivian in the scoreline.

Pella v Dellien Prediction and Tip

Dellien should be expected to put things right in their head-to-head against Pella. The Argentine is only getting back and hasn’t faced a player at the level of Dellien on clay courts since his return.
