Francisco Cerundolo v Jaume Munar Head to Head

Francisco Cerundolo leads Jaume Munar 1-0 in their head-to-head, winning that match on the clay at the Guayaquil Challenger in 2020.

Cerundolo Returns to Winning Ways in Buenos Aires

Last week, Francisco Cerundolo was forced to retire in the quarterfinal of the Cordoba Open due to a hamstring injury, while trailing countryman Federico Coria 3-6 0-3.

Cerundolo has been on a steady rise in the rankings and has been rewarded this week, becoming Argentina’s new No. 1 after Diego Schwartzman lost a few spots in the world’s top 30.

The 24-year-old has recovered in the nick of time as he searches to win his second ATP title. Cerundolo has been to a final in Buenos Aires, most memorably in 2021 when he made the championship match as a qualifier and almost completed a double feat following his younger brother’s shock triumph in Cordoba.

Now, he is in Buenos Aires as a mainstay in the ATP’s top 50. Cerundolo got the better of Yannick Hanfmann in a tough first-round battle, which stretched to three sets. The fifth seed’s stamina and use of drop shots pushed him across the finish line, as he secured a late break of serve in the 12th game of the third set.

Munar Makes Way Past Pella

Jaume Munar needed two hours to sail past former World No. 20 Guido Pella and book his spot in the second round of the Argentina Open.

The 25-year-old Spaniard arrived in Buenos Aires without a win in 2023, and his problems deepened as he went down a break early.

But Pella’s fitness proved a major concern as he relinquished a 3-0 lead. And after Munar survived a scare in the eighth game, he quickly broke again before serving for a one-set lead.

In the second set, neither player looked comfortable on serve. There were seven breaks in total, but despite building a 5-2 lead, Pella did not back down and leveled the match to 5-5. But that was only a momentary lapse and Munar won the final two games of the match.

Cerundolo v Munar Prediction and Tip

Munar’s serve was profoundly exploited by Pella. But it was just that the 32-year-old did not have the stamina and match fitness to win the longer rallies. Cerundolo looks healthy again after a recent injury in Corodoba and should get past the Spaniard in another dogfight.
