Our 2023 WTA Dubai Duty-Free Championships Predictions & Picks
It will be interesting to see the kind of draw Iga Swiatek will get. At the time of writing Swiatek is due to play her semifinal match at the Qatar Open.
Last year the Pole lost to Jelena Ostappenko in Dubai in a third-set tiebreak, before she embarked on a 37-match winning streak. And Swiatek has looked in devastating form in her return to action in Doha. It is hard to look past Pole here, who will once again be the tournament favorite.
In the history of this tournament, only three players have won it back-to-back. So you could make a case for Jelena Ostapeko to join that lot which includes Justine Henin, Venus Williams, and Elina Svitolina. The Latvian has looked in fine form in 2023, and if she can avoid facing the top-seeded Pole early on, she has the explosive power to sweep past the rest of the field as she did in 2022.
Sabalenka is playing for the first time since capturing her first Grand Slam at last month’s Australian Open, and truthfully she is a bit of an unknown quantity for our liking in the outright market.
