Anna Karolina Schmiedlova v Marie Bouzkova Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two, both of which came in hardcourt competitions – in Monterrey and Guadalajara. Bouzkova has won them both.

At one stage in her career, Schmiedlova was 26th on the WTA Rankings chart. It’s been seven years since she touched those heights but after that, her career trajectory has never looked as good again.
Injuries have played their part but like has been the case this season too, consistency has continued to elude Schmiedlova.
This season, the Slovak kick-started the season with an opening round defeat at the Canberra ITF competition and needed to come through three qualifying wins at the Australian Open to enter the main draw.
A straight-set win over Martina Trevisan followed but Schmiedlova fell to a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Camila Giorgi in the second.
Successive defeats in Hua Hin and Merida mean she enters this tournament on the back of three successive losses, and will be up against a player ranked 30th in the world. Cannot get tougher than that.

Bouzkova Not at Her Best
After the kind of season Bouzkova had in 2022, she would be a touch disappointed with the manner in which she has started things off here.
Sure there have been the odd sparkling performances but that’s what you expect from a player who in the top 30 of the WTA Rankings. What you don’t expect is for one to lose to the likes of Anna Blinkova and Rebeccan Marino – something that Bouzkova has endured this year.
There’s one mitigating factor though, Bouzkova’s draws. They have been brutal.
For instance, she was drawn to face Bianca Andreescu in her Australian Open opener. Bouzkova then played Beatriz Haddad Maia in the first round at Abu Dhabi. And Elena Rybakina in the second round of the WTA Dubai.
That being said, Bouzkova would have liked to win at least one or two of those.
Can she shrug that off as one of those things and kick-start her 2023 journey from here?
Schmiedlova v Bouzkova Prediction and Tip
Bouzkova is a heavy favourite here and despite her overall poor win-loss record this season we will have to tip her to clinch this in straight sets.
