Felix Auger-Aliassime v Lorenzo Sonego Head to Head
Two previous matches have been played between these two players and Auger-Aliassime has won them both. The first came at the 2020 Hamburg Open while the second was more recently, in Rotterdam this month where the Canadian registered a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Auger-Aliassime Scrapes Past Cressy
It was another match in which Auger-Aliassime hasn’t quite looked himself. Or at least hasn’t seemed the same player who won four ATP titles last season.
In what is his fifth tournament of the year, Auger-Aliassime registered a three-set win over Maxime Cressy with the match lasting over three hours. The Canadian number one came through 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3 to reach the second round.
In a battle of serves, Auger-Aliassime endured 27 aces from his opponent but more vitally failed to convert 13 of the 14 break-points he faced in the encounter. He broke him once, and lost his own serve one time too.
It was the opening set tie-breaker which made the difference as Auger-Aliassime’s ability to hold his nerve under pressure shone through.
Auger-Aliassime might have won this but it also showed again why his record this season is 8-4 and why he hasn’t done better than the fourth round appearance at the Australian Open.

Sonego Breaks Three-Match Losing Streak
It hasn’t quite been a year to remember for Sonego, who at one point in his career was ranked 21st in the world. The constant drop in form, examples of which have been on show in 2023 as well, have caused him to slide to 67th on the ATP charts.
Which is why a rare first round win here, coming on the back of three successive defeats – including one to Auger-Aliassime himself – would have been something to cherish.
Sonego came through against Marc-Andrea Huesler to win his opener for only the third time from the seven tournaments he’s played so far. A 7-5, 6-3 win in an hour and 28 minutes ensured the Italian set up this second meeting of the season with Auger-Aliassime.
The pair traded breaks of serves in the first five games of the opening set following which Sonego broke his opponent in the 12th game to take the lead. In the second, the two held on to their serves till the very end when Sonego got his second break-point of the second and gleefully converted it.
He served it out to make it to the second round.
Auger-Aliassime v Sonego Prediction and Tip
No surprises who the favourite is and we also reckon Auger-Aliassime should come through in two sets here despite his form issues.
