This will be the first time that Krunic and Anisimova will be facing off in a tennis match.
Doubles Specialist Krunić Aiming for a Plunge into Singles
This is not to say that Krunic hasn’t had performances going for her in the singles tennis. Only eight months ago, she had reached a career-high of 39th in the world, and breaking into the top 25 might have been a possibility. However, things went a tad off-path at that stage and she finished the previous year on a win-loss record of 21-21 at the highest level.
This year, again, it’s not been the greatest starts, failing to qualify for the main draw of the Brisbane International and Sydney International before a second round exit at the Australian Open as well. Things didn’t get any better at Budapest where she was sent packing in the second round by Sorana Cirstea and there would always be that question-mark over the confidence levels for her.
Her experience should help, but up against her is an opponent who makes up for her lack of experience with the fearlessness of youth.

She is just 17 and Anisimova has already captured a lot of imagination of people. And now with a wild-card under her belt, Anisimova will hope she can continue with some of the form that has helped her climb to 67th on the WTA rankings in a matter of a few months.
There was that appearance in the final of the Osaka Open last year after having to qualify for the tournament by winning three matches and a quarter-final presence at the Auckland Open earlier this year. However, Anisimova’s most satisfying result would have been her performance at the Australian Open, her third main draw appearance at a Grand Slam competition.
And she made it to the round of 16 with wins over Monica Niculescu, Lesya Tsurenko and the biggest upset of them all, Aryna Sabalenka.
While she retired from the Acapulco first round match last week after she wasn’t feeling well but she should be come into this encounter fully fit and could lead to an exciting encounter.
