Novak Djokovic v Daniil Medvedev Head to Head

This has been a solid rivalry that dates back to the 2017 Davis Cup where Djokovic won. Since that victory, they have faced off 12 times and Djokovic leads 8-4 on head to head. The last four matches have all been won by Djokovic including the semifinal of the Adelaide International earlier this season.

Djokovic Sends Hurkacz Packing

It took him a little more time than he would have liked but in the end, Djokovic carved out a straight-set win over Hubert Hurkacz in their quarterfinal encounter.

Djokovic was on court for an hour and 23 minutes to clinch it 6-3, 7-5 in a match that turned out to be a serving master-class from the world number one.

This was after the world number one clinched 81% of his first serve points and 79% of the second serves, and faced no break-points in the entire match. In turn he broke Hurkacz twice from the eight opportunities he got.

This win, his 15th in a row for the season, follows Djokovic’s straight-set victory over Tallon Griekspoor in the second round. The one rare occasion in which he was troubled was in the first round here when Tomas Machac pushed him to a final set tie-breaker.

Now, however, he could be up against one of his toughest challengers on the tour at the moment. Can he make it 16 from 16?

Medvedev Crushes Coric in Quarters

Medvedev needed an hour and 22 minutes and in the end he got past Borna Coric in straight sets to set up his meeting with the world number one.

Two breaks of serves in the first set sealed the lead for Medvedev and while Coric went 2-0 up in the second, the Russian raced off to the next six games in a row with three breaks in a row. Once Coric dropped his serve in the fourth game of the second set, there was no looking back for Medvedev.

While he is no Djokovic, Medvedev has also run away to a bit of a winning streak of his own. This victory over Coric was his 12th successive win, having earlier clinched the titles at Rotterdam and Doha.

Can he add to his tally or will the world number one ensure that’s the end of the road for him?

Djokovic v Medvedev Prediction and Tip

Whoever the opponent, it’s tough to predict his win over Djokovic in the kind of form that he is right now. Medvedev might put up a better fight but in the end it will be Djokovic to come through.
