Caroline Garcia v Elise Mertens Head to Head
There have been six previous meeting between these two players and Garcia leads 4-2 which includes a straight-set win the last time they met at the 2022 Cincinnati Open.

Sherif No Match for Garcia
Mayar Sherif did put up a brave front in the second set of her quarterfinal encounter with Garcia but the world number five still found a way to make it past her opponent in straight sets.
Garcia won 6-0, 6-4 in just 65 minutes to enter the semifinal stage of the competition, making it the third tournament this season in which the Frenchwoman has won three matches in a row. It is also the first time this season she has won all three in straight sets.
Earlier, Garcia had overcome Kaja Juvan and Nuria Parrizas Diaz in the first two rounds.
Here she raced off to a quick start as she dropped just two points on her serve in the first set even as she broke Sherif thrice. It was in the second things became slightly more difficult for Garcia as Sherif refused to budge on serve, pushing it to 4-4.
Garcia then held on to 15 and broke Sherif as she prepared to serve to stay in the encounter.
A slightly trickier opponent awaits Garcia but given her form, she should have all the bases covered.

Mertens Makes Short Work of Cocciaretto
Mertens might have gone into her quarterfinal match against Elisabetta Cocciaretto expecting a heavy battle but it turned out to be a damp squib in the end. And much to the delight of the Belgian.
In a match that lasted an hour and 20 minutes, Mertens won 6-2, 6-2 to reach the semifinal and set up her clash with Garcia.
The fourth seed hammered seven aces and staved off all the five break-points she faced in the match. On the other hand, Mertens also broke Cocciaretto four times, having earned 13 breaking opportunities in their quarterfinal.
Mertens had earlier overcome Diana Schnaider in straight sets while needing three sets against Elena Gabriela Ruse in the second round.
This has, by far, been Mertens’ best showing this season having earlier only won back to back matches at the Australian Open. A tough semifinal awaits her though.

Garcia looks to have most things under control and unless she falls off dramatically from the perch, a straight-set win awaits her here.
