Borna Coric v Ivo Karlovic Head to Head

The two men have met twice before, with Karlovic winning on both occasions, first on the clay of Bucharest in 2015, and then on the grass at Wimbledon a year later. However, that was when Coric was still new on tour, and the two men have been on different trajectories since.

Coric, Looking for Upturn in Form

22 year-old Coric is looking for a run of results which will boost his chances of breaking in the world’s top ten.

Ranked 12th in the world, Coric’s results so far this year have been mixed, reaching the last 16 in Melbourne, but then knocked out in the first round in Marseille, where he went down to Ugo Humbert after he had earlier lost both his matches at the Adelaide World Tennis Challenger to Fernando Verdasco.

His best performances were reserved though for Dubai, where he reached the semi-final before losing to Roger Federer.

This comes at the back of his best ever tennis season at the top, where he finished the 2018 edition on a 40-20 win-loss record.

Karlovic, Giant Veteran Continues to Set Records

One of the tallest players on tour at 6 ft. 11 inches, Karlovic, who turned pro as far back as 2000 is in the twilight of his career.

However, despite this, he has continued to defy his age, and, in January, he became the oldest man since Ken Rosewall in 1977 to contest an ATP final. He lost on that occasion to Kevin Anderson in Maharatsa, but not before pushing the South African very close.

And, he has already made another piece of history at Indian Wells this week. His first round triumph over Matthew Ebden was the first win in a competitive match by a man aged over 40 on the ATP Tour since Jimmy Connors in 1995.

Coric v Karlovic Predictions & Tips

Coric will start odds-on favourite at 4/11, with Karlovic priced at 23/10 (bet365) . As the younger player, Coric should have too much for the veteran. However, Karlovic, despite his age, still possesses the big serve that has been such a potent weapon throughout his career. If he can get that going and avoid the match going to three sets, do not discount him carving out another bit of history.
