Simona Halep v Kateryna Kozlova Head to Head

This will be the first time that Halep and Kozlova will find each other on the opposite ends of the court.

Kozlova Looking Mighty Confident

The 25-year-old Ukranian started the tournament as a qualifier and made it to the main draw without losing a single set. In her opening match, Kozlova defeated the young Czech Katerina Siniakova in straight sets.

Building on that momentum, she dispatched the 31st seeded Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 in the second round. That win also marked the second time this season that Kozlova has reached the third round in a WTA event.

She last achieved this feat in Budapest a couple of weeks ago, where she lost to Alison Van Uytvanck in the quarters.

Kozlova has five ITF titles to her name and is currently ranked in the 100s. Over the course of her career, she has had a couple of interesting runs although, she is yet to win a singles title on the WTA circuit. She was a semifinalist in the Tashkent Open last season, which was her highlight of the year.

Halep’s Solid Start

The season so far has been quite precarious for the Romanian, but a win-loss record of 10-4 and the No. 2 ranking as of WTA Dubai isn’t a bad position to be in.

She went through the Australian Open series without a coach and the end result was a fourth-round loss to Serena Williams in Melbourne. She then appointed a new coach right before the WTA Doha but ended up parting ways with him by the end of that week. Nonetheless, she was the runner-up in that tournament, losing to Elise Mertens in the final.

Citing a lack of on-court chemistry, Halep once again decided to go without a coach and headed to Dubai. The best she could do there was reach the quarterfinal before succumbing to Belinda Bencic.

As for her run so far here, she enjoyed a bye into the second round and started her bid with a straight-set win over Barbora Strycova.
